What he said or did

After Ukraine's defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov asked SpaceX to act against Russian use of Starlink, Musk wrote: Looks like the steps we took to stop the unauthorized use of Starlink by Russia have worked.

Background

Ukraine and SpaceX introduced a registration list of authorised terminals; unverified devices were disabled. Russian pro-war bloggers reported a Starlink cutoff along the front from 4 February 2026.

Official response

Fedorov wrote that the next step was a system that will allow only authorized terminals to operate on the territory of Ukraine.

What happened next

Russian military bloggers reported widespread loss of Starlink access among Russian units; a Ukrainian serviceman said terminals were mostly still working on the Ukrainian side, and Ukrainian military sources said the affected terminals were those awaiting verification (Novaya Gazeta Europe).
